Thumbs from Bayou Drive Salt Marshes

Hi Everyone,
These thumbs are of the Salt Marshes near the Gulf. They are from a photo (It's an hour's drive north of here). I concentrated on simplifying the composition and using three different formats for the same subject. Now that Painting Water workshop is behind me, I'm thinking more of including the sky in the composition. I'm looking forward to doing a painting soon. Today is the first free day without company. As is often the case, it's wonderful to have them here and then there comes a time when the thoughts start to come: "I can't wait to start painting again". That time has arrived. :>)

  1. Phoebe I love them all, each one has something really nice about it. My favourite is the bottom one as it reminds me of our sky class with Deborah and we did a lot of work with her that was incredibly positive. That is a great sky you have there I like the shape of the cloud, good design there. Nice reflections in the one on the right here is the water looking lovely with a gentle ripple across it. I can't wait to see the painting. I have done a painting from the thumb from yesterday. Shame we can't post our thumb inspired paintings too. Maybe we need another blog for that! I actually went from the thumb to a very loose watercolour sketch and then did a watercolour painting from it. I know how you feel it is exciting to get painting again. So far I am doing well regarding a schedule following what Deborah says about being fresh in the morning, this is indeed very true I notice I work well first thing in the morning. I usually did chores and print packing in the morning and painted in the afternoon. Have you noticed a difference from working in the morning to latere in the afternoon?

  2. Hi Caroline, Thanks for the feedback. I don't see any reason not to post the process from your thumbnail to the completed painting. It would be inspiring and helpful to see how you did it. When we see the end result, it justifies the means - many more thumbs! I'm sure everyone would like to see your loose watercolor AND your finished watercolor.
