Hello to all the Thumbies!
My Irish guest and I were able to go to Philippe Park and do some thumbs. This park is on Tampa Bay which has much calmer water than the Gulf.
Yesterday I did a couple of thumbs at the strawberry ranch and they were a total flop. I worked on one for quite some time and tried to retrieve it but it was way too busy. While I was sketching I could feel someone breathing down my back. I turned around and there were at least twelve cows about four feet away staring at me with great curiosity. They were wondering what was I doing in their field! What we won't go through to get our thumbs!
Phoebe, I love the palm trees and the sense of the water. Talk about paradise, These turned out very nicely. And I am glad that the cows were friendly cows, and didn't mind sharing their space with you. I bet it could be intimidating to be taken by surprise that way? But a good story none the less. : )
ReplyDeleteHaha, nice story. I really like the right thumb because of the big range of values. The shadows are very well to see. O:-)
ReplyDeleteI love the story behind these thumbs Phoebe. Your palms are really lovely. Do you think you might draw in some of those cows?
ReplyDeleteThank you Naomi, Ulrike, and Caroline. The cows were at the JG Ranch (not the same place as the palm trees). There were about 9 artists at the ranch and the owners were so friendly and inviting. Their son led a couple of us into the cow field where we wanted to sketch and told us not to be alarmed if they came up and snooped around. They were very friendly and would do no harm. The cows are treated very well by the owners; almost like pets so the cows are use to being around people. In fact, the owner's son told us they have clients that own a thousand cows but will come and buy some of their cows to have around their ranch for their grandchildren! These cows are really beautiful and were not intimidating. I never would have gone in that field without the owners permission. That would be too risky. The cows could be dangerous or so could the rancher! Remember, America has cowboys even in Florida!
