Ulrike, these are just beautiful! I love both of them. The pastel has a very interesting design to it. I can see how you made the water darker than the sky in the painting which I try to remember to do also. One possible thing that might give the painting more depth is to tone down the treeline. It appears to be as dark as the shoreline. If it were a little lighter it would give it more distance. I can really see how you are applying what Deborah taught in the Skys can Water workshops. You are VERY productive which is a GREAT inspiration to me!
It's great to be an inspiration for you O:-) I was thinking about toning down the trees already. I'll have another look. If I have got time, I have to paint and the Easter holidays are very soon, yeah!
A thumbnail Sketch is a small and rough sketch outlining the elements in a proposed painting. Thumbnail sketches are a good way to work through an idea, or to try out different compositions. It is up to the artist to decide what medium to use; pencils, charcoal, colored pencils. Notes can be added on thoughts and ideas to carry out in the painting. The shape of the sketch is in proportion with the paper or canvas to be painted.

Great to see the two works together, the thumb is lovely and the painting is a powerful subject.
